The A335 P22 is a seamless pipe made from a ferritic alloy stainless steel. Chemically, the alloy of SA335 P22 material contains carbon, manganese, sulphur, silicon and phosphorous in trace amounts. The main additives in the alloy are chromium and molybdenum, which gives stainless steel superior mechanical properties. Properties like tensile strength, corrosion resistance, hardness, etc are enhanced and increased. The brittleness due to the addition of chromium is reduced by molybdenum.
Therefore, the SA335 P22 pipe has been created to cater to high pressure and temperature requirements across many industries. The SA335 grade P22 is well suited to fusion welding and forming operations like bending and flanging or vanstoning. The surface of the A335 P22 pipe can be treated with either oiled or painted black. This surface treatment or coating increases the pipe’s resistance to corrosion. The tensile strength of the ASTM A335 P22 pipe is 415 Mpa, while its yield strength is 205 Mpa. The elongation percentage of the pipe is about 30%.
The A335 grade P22 pipe end is available in either a plain end, threaded ending and bevelled ending. The form of A335 P22 welded pipe can be either one of these shapes, for example - square, rectangle, round and hydraulic. The pipe could be manufactured by either cold drawing or hot finishing with heat treatments. The heat treatments can be in a combination of either fully or isothermal annealing with quenching or normalizing and tempering.
